Beans View

Bainbridge Island, Washington

    Beans View

    Description:
With roof lines that reach for expansive southerly views, this waterfront retreat on Bainbridge Island, was designed with family in mind. A central living space with bedroom suites flanking east and west, it welcomes kids of all ages. A reflection of Northwest Regional design, the building’s liberal use of wood both interior and exterior, open floor plan, extensive use of glass and low pitched roofs reinforce the vernacular.

The buildings asymmetrical layout responds to the sloping terrain, with planted roofs both enhancing its low profile and providing a natural cooling effect in the warm summer months. Stone cladding, sourced regionally, helps anchor the building to the site and reduces maintenance. The home is situated at the base of a large hill with a foundation literally carved out of bedrock. The design integrated a substantial sub-grade drainage system to manage the underground river of water that flows through the site year round.
