The Perch
Description:
Situated on a steep, narrow, in-city lot, this artist’s residence took full advantage of expansive views of downtown Seattle and Elliot Bay.
At the heart of the home is a design studio that includes a series of roof monitors to flood the space with indirect natural light.
The central stair is anchored by Tansu style casework that provides abundant storage and is a nod to the clients extensive collection of traditional Japanese furniture. Playful use of materials including a woven metal screen at the entry vestibule are found throughout the home.
The building is clad in rich textures featuring a mix of re-claimed wood from Montana corrals and rodeo bleacher seats, Sho-sugi-ban treated cypress and Richlite panels.
Coupled with aluminum clad windows and doors and standing seam metal roofing it fulfills the clients desire for a low maintenance exterior. Elements of deeply textured board-form concrete at the entry and select areas add a striking contrast to surrounding finishes.
